Resistance reading on old schematic
8/30/2010 6:41:12 PMCarey
On a 1938 Silvertone Schematic many of the resistors
value numbers are followed by the letter "M". Did
they use M instead of K back then? Example R16=31M

:I am new to old radio repair as of today, i used to repair them years ago for a living. It's a hobby now.
:
:If you check the side reference notes on the schematic you should see a reference to the M as 1000 ohms. 31M = 31K ohms (31,000 ohms). With no M it is just ohms. The schematic will call out MEG. ohm values if it is a meg ohm resistor. If you are unsure remove the resistor and measure it out of the circuit.

:Hey Mitch: I'm new to this site and probably messed up. However, I am back in the Silvertone this morning
thanks to your information. Like a fella said on here,
"It is a sickness". This thing is going to play or
kill me one...
