All of the 201's are mounted on sockets that have spring like action to them. What was the purpose of that. They booble like booble heads when bumped.
Tubes in your Grebe are most likely marked UX201A. These are the same as 01A on EICO 666 obsolete list.
UX199 is same as 99.
Springs is the sockets are there to reduce microphonics. When these tubes are tapped insides vibrate and cause a ringing noise. Spring sockets reduce this.

:I just got a neat Grebe Synchrophase radio ca 1927. It uses several 201 tubes. I have an Eico 666 tube tester but it won't test these tubes. What tester will test the 201's and, also, what tester will test a UX199 tube?

One more question. What kind of speaker can I use with this radio? Doesn't look like one wouls need a field coil from the schematic.
Thanks,
John

Rejuvenation might take an hour or so.
Grebe made a battery operated Synchrophase 7 first then the factory took some back and converted them to AC7. Radios are very similar. Biggest difference, AC version uses a 5 pin tube, #27. See if you radio has a 5 pin tube socket for the detector.
Use a high impedance speaker such as RCA 100 series or Atwater Kent E series. A modern PM speaker can be used with an output transformer.

::The AC-7 used 26s. The battery model used 01As but no 80. The 80 went into an outboard power supply.

:Thanks to all for replies. Thanks for the rejuv idea and will try it. I took a closer look and see that my set uses the 201's and no 80 so batt. powered.

:What kind of speaker though? I have an old Peerless. Would that work?
:
Peerless speaker is fine..
