RCA R-32

i juar picked up this old radio at a garage sale and am curious if it has that proboematic "catacomb" design in the receiver section. There is definitely a separate tuner from the power supply. The tuner has all 26 tubes and one 27 tube. Is this worth fixing?

Hi Dave

This is not one of those early superhets where RCA potted everything in wax. R32 is A TRF and should be worth fixing. The filter caps are in one large block. You can remove and replace these caps or just cut them lose and replace under the chassis. A schematic should be available here on nostalgiaair under R-32, R-52, RE-45 or RE-75, all use the same circuit.
