Drop 145 Volts at 15w's
8/13/2010 5:22:44 PMBob
Emerson Rider 6-17 model 108, requires a 145v15w line cord resistor. Is there another way others then using large resistors, perhaps with diodes not much room in radio

Yes Bob there sure is. It is done with an AC capacitor, and a lower watt resistor. Can use an AC diode too. Send me an E-mail, or post yours. I can send you a really cool Excel worksheet how this is done.

Here's all the the info you'll need and all about it.
The Excel spreadsheet is at the very bottom in a zip file.

Bob

The site Peter mentioned has a good explaniation about line dropping methods.

If you are in the US don't want 145 volt drop. You must be located in a country with 220 volts? If so you will need a 100 watt resistor or other method to drop voltage. 145 X .3 amps = 43.5 watts.
