I posted this repair in mid May and had a most helpful reply from Bill Grimm. So if you are there Bill or any other folks with ideas. The set has just 70 volts of HT. As Bill suggested I changed the important caps but did in fact change everyone of them inc the smoothing. The rectifier was checked and found to be fine but I changed this one too. Still low HT. The recifier and the output are running hot. Something somewhere is drawing current. But where and what. help please.

Hi Frank

Make sure caps C27 and C28 have proper polarity and are rated 160 volts or more. Has C18, C19 been replaced?

What voltage do you have on pin #8 of the 50L6? Would exoect around 5 volts when it's working correctly. If much higher the 50L6 is drawing too much current.

Repaired an Emerson 510 before. It's problem was the audio output transformer had a shorting primary winding to chassis.
