Delco 1231

I have a cool brown Delco 1231 from my grandfather and listen to it daily. Today it faded out and went out totally. None of the bulbs were glowing. I unplugged it for awhile and decided to try again. The bulbs came to life and it works again. What can I check for?

I believe your radio is a 1948 model. It probably has the 8 pin octal tubes. Check for bad solder connections at the tube sockets. Especially at the 35Z5 and 50L6 heater connections. It could also be an intermittent heater in one of the tubes, again the 35Z5 & 50L6 suspected. The last thing to look for is the tube pin solder connections at the tip of the pins. Again the 35Z5 and 50L6. Those are the two hottest tube in the set. And is a common problem.

Also, suspect the power switch and the AC line cord pins in the wall socket.
