:Hello All,
: How powerful is this set? It's a blaster! I just replaced 20 capacitors in it. It sounds a bit bright on the high frequencies. But the speaker isn't in the cabinet. I am assuming that this is normal. The bass is quite normal. It sounds really good!
: Whoever worked on this before, claiming that it was restored, used a 100 microfarad capacitor as the first one after the 80 (was supposed to be an 8 microfarad capacitor, then they didn't replace the two 8 microfarad capacitors in the other can, actually just one paper capacitor was replaced, and two electrolytic capacitors were replaced with the wrong values. There's a lot of 8 microfarad capacitors in there. More than I would have expected. I like the two filter chokes. This is just amazing! The person who brought this to me thought that it was working. I can't imagine how it was working with bad and wrong capacitors. But it really works well now.

The 80 was most certainly a modification. Someone didn't have a 5Y3G and substituted the 80 rahter than ordering the newer tube. I did something similar when I was a kid.

:Hi Dave,
: Reads like you have a real keeper there. Teh work of the previous 'restorer' sounds like the work of a kid. When they are restored to factory original they are great. It gives one a sense of accomplishment when it is restored. It will operate like that for many years to come, too.
