howdy edd,how are thee??
i'm in need of a schematic for a western air patrol console, model 1139-11 tubes-the distinct tubes are 6ae6 and 6af6 eye tube with an 80 rectifier,i have been unable to find anything about this radio-may have been built by gifillan.
thanks,phil

Sir Phil. . . . . .

I'm here . . . but that schematic is not.

Can you fill us in on the sets complete toobie complement.

And is the schematic needed for toubleshooting an inoperative receiver ?

If so, what is the perceived general nature of problem.

And any chance that 6AE6 is seeming to be interconnected with tht 6AF6 as in possibly serving as an AVC amp stage ? or it more over towards the AF output stage ?

hi edd!
complete line up is-80,6af6,6v6x2,6f5,6sk7x2,6k8,6ae6,6h6g and 6j7.
no real problems with the set i haven't resolved,it's playing well now after replacing some caps and a few resistors-not done yet but good progress and set performs o.k.-just not great for an 11 tube radio.
just looking for some documentation mainly and a good explaination of the 6af6 tube's operation-it's sorta unique-never saw one before.
thanks for the help.phil
p.s.-i've been told that the info may be in a gifillan-specific manual, was hoping someone here might have it.

damn i hate the no edit button!didn't see my misspellings until i posted!
the 6ae6 is tied to the output-maybe a driver?

Sir Phil . . . . .

For what use it might be worth in certain comparative circuit similarities, the ONLY units that I am finding that are using BOTH of those combined 6AE6 and 6AF6 tubes are the radios being submitted herewith.

Of course you can see that some units are using (2) 6AF6's and there is also the use of a newer generation of power rectifier tubes or an older version of some RF tubes . . .6K7 / 6SK7, etc.

" complete line up is-80,6af6,6v6x2,6f5,6sk7x2,6k8,6ae6,6h6g and 6j7 "

Expecting those used functions to be:

80 . . . . . Power rectifier

6V6x2 . . . .AF outpots

6F5. . . . .AF driver

6SK7x2 . . .RF and IF amps

6K8 . . . .Mixer-osc

6H6g . . .Det -AVC

6J7. . . .AF amp

6AF6 . . .Tuning eye

6AE6 . . .Probably tuning eye preamp

Comparing your sets circuitry to some of the same used in these units might possibly be helpful in troubleshooting.

Otherwise, that is all the relevant info that I can currently find.

With main consideration being applied to the Sentinals and Knights

:hi edd, thanks for the list,i'll give them a looksee.earlier i stated 6ae6 was possibly an audio driver-i have since confirmed it is tied to the 6af6 eyetube-sorry for the confusion.
