I wanted to set up a CD player and speakers in shrubbery front of house to play patriotic songs/music on the days I display flags (Memorial, Flag, Veterans[Armastice],Labor, etc.) and thought I'd use a cheep portable CD player and a pair of Commputer Desk speaker as they have a built in amp. First problem was the speakers have a USB connector plug rather than a wallhog DC adaptor.I over came that problem with a USB powered hub that was a transition piece (when USB was growing but your computer had only one or two USB jacks you could add this) Well, that supplys the 5V through the USB plug but no sound! When I put it back on a computer it works fine. It appears that the data lines (the other two wires in USB plug) have to be connected to something. I had though the USB only supply power to the speakers but I'm obviously wrong. Does anyone know if I can get the amp to work wiout computer? Is there a way to connect a resistor or something across data terminal and fake out amp? Any ideas would be welcome. I thought this would be a snap but I may have to go out and buy a speaker unit that has the wallhog on it . PL

Why not just simply run some speakers out there and keep ALL the amp and electronics indoors?
:Why the need to locate the CD player and amp out there too?
