Commodore Power Supply and a Linear Power Supply
6/10/2010 7:39:17 PMBrian
I have an old Commodore power supply, output is 5 VDC 8.5 W, 9VAC 9VA. Would the output calculate to be 1.5 amps, and would this work to power the filaments of 01As?

Also have a Super Power Linear power supply, 5 VDC, 1A. Given I do not exceed 4 01As, would this work as well?

The power and voltage may be correct for the 01As, but the noise that is produced by computer power supplies is going to be a problem. Even the linear PS may not have enough filtering for the 01As.

I believe that the Commodore power supply is a linear power supply. I have a couple and they are potted in a solid block.

I would try it.

Sir Brian. . . . . .

Also confirming . . .seems like the "old" term qualifies them as my having them found to be plastic "linear design" blocks.

By memory . . . seems like they might have been prior to ultrasonic seaming up of the cases, such that a
possible 4 screws hidden with in the bumper feet extrusions might give access to parting its clamshell housing .

The two I have were ultrsonically welded. Tapping on the top and sides gives the solid feel and sound of being potted. The bottom feels hollow but would have to be cut open to see.

This is sealed similar to what Ed has desribed. At 8.5 w surely they would be over 1 amp at 5 VDC?
