hi. have a king hinners radio. 5 tube three dial radio. now the question is what are the three phono type jacks for?? i know one must be speaker plug. are there supposed to be two duds for the other two. and if so are they shorted together to make a connection? filaments do not light unless i put some thing in the jack. thank you for your help.

:I have not seen a schematic of this radio, but some old radios had jacks for milliAmmeters to measure the filament current for the tubes. When the meter was not plugged into a jack, there are contacts to close the filament circuit. Anyhoo, this is my guess, and I am sticking by it.

:I do not know about this particular radio, but some of this vintage had jacks for earphones whereby the listener could "plug-in" right off the detector, after one stage of amplification, or after two stages of amplification. They used a two rehostats to control filament voltage, and therefore the gain / volume. Did not work all that well under all conditions (filament voltage affects stuff other than volume). Thus there are three places in the circuit where one may plug in earphones, and optimize setup of all the control knobs. Filaments not lighting until something is in the jacks does not make any sense, unless someone has messed with the original wiring. Ed M

hi again. the only thing that i found is some one replaced a transformer. the wire doesnt seem to be modified. i have senn other battery radios with dummy plugs in the jacks that werent beining used.
