RCA X551

HI,

The current project is a RCA X551
http://www.nostalgiaair.org/resources/948/m0015948.htm

The radio was completely recapped. It was also aligned. Responded to all signals and passed all tests.

However, the radio does not get any reception of stations, even my AM transmitter. I bypassed the phono input. B+ at plates is 85 (97 schem) and 105 after the rectifier. B+ current is 53ma less than schematic.

All coils check out ok (continuity)

Any ideas why it dosent work?

Ian

Have you tried the oscillator test with another working radio? I take it the amplifier was working if you got a tone doing alignment.

No,
How exactly do I do this, ive heard of it but not actually done it.

Use a good working AM radio (transistor radio) tune it to a high end weak station, or blank spot on the dial. Hold it close to the non-working radio, turn the dial on the non-working radio around the same frequency back and forth. You should hear a thump in the working radio, as you come close within the 455 range of working radio.

That's a good explanation. It's what I did mean to try and explain. Without getting overly technical.
