I bought a buch of old radios and this was in the mix. I've looked all over the cabinet and can not find a model number. It looks like an AM radio with a record player and tape recorder. does anyone know anything about this model and maybe value. I haven't tested it yet and not sure how to use the tapr recorder.
Thanks
Bob

I think I have seen that model on eBay occasionally before. The unit on top is a phonograph/wire recorder. The amplifier design is most likely conventional, and this unit should be fairly easy to bring back to life. The erase head of the wire recorder is typically fed from a high frequency oscillator. If the oscillator is adjustable, avoid adjusting it.

Probably any crystal or high output magnetic microphone will do. The machine is also capable of recording directly from the radio. The wire spool may be a standard Webster Chicago type, or some other type. The recording wire comes on the spool, so the spool(s) will be particular to each recording (or blank wire). The spool is not part of the machine. You can find spools of wire on eBay, some that have been recorded on, and some that are blank. Having a listen is always interesting.

Sir Bob. . . . . .

Saw that you found one of those circa 47-48 vintage units and I pulled the schema for it while in my archives last weekend.

Looks like all you need to seek out is a reel of wire, and as far that missing microphone, my choice would be to use a modern day electret microphone cartridge element and then house it in any case that you desire.

Looks like they just used a proven common octal oriented AA-5 chassis unit of their stock and then tacked on another chassis for the wire recorder electronics on a separate chassis with interconnects . . . plus . . . additionally using the then coming into vogue 7 pin miniature tubes in its design.
