Northern electric 1569

Hello everyone, my name is joe and I am a 3rd year university electrical engineering student. Recently, my grandparents moved from the home they have lived in for over 50 years in order to "downsize" into a condo. He still had his first radio in the basement and I "stole" it and told him we threw it out in order to restore it for his 90th birthday later this year.

The make is Northern Electric, and the model is a 1569a. I believe it is from the early 1940's. I am pretty confortable with restoring the electronics and having my father refinish the cabinet but would like to have some pictures for color and fabric references, and and some diagrams/schematics for the radio itself. Perhaps a scan of the origional manual would be amazing to have s well. If anyone can give me any info or help for this project, I would be extremly greatful.
Joe

Ps. This set is missing all of the knobs and was wondering if anyone has a source or trick to replacing them without the new knobs looking weird, this would be helpful as well. I was thinking of getting blank, yellowed "white" knobs for an electric guitar and painting the text on the with fine brush in black. What do you guys think?

Hi Joe,

As far as the Schematic and alignment data goes......I can provide that but I'll need your email address.

I'll be leaving on a one week vacation this afternoon but will check back here later today (before I leave) to see if you've responded. If not......perhaps mid-May before I am able to send any data.

Regards,
Dennis

John Rose's website is nicely done with all Northern Electric rsdios: http://northernelectric.ca

Ed Kraushar visit this forum from time to time. He is the gentleman behind the RCC scans. I suspect if he reads your request, he will gladly offer help.

I know you can also buy a CD offering the full RCC scans for cheap.

:Hi! Joe,
I have your schematic info ready to send but need your email address. Either post your email address in the box when you reply or point your mouse and click on my name at the top left of the page. That will get you my email address and you can email me directly. To research the radio knobs just Google " Northern Electric Radio Pictures" and follow the links.
Hope this helps.

Joe,
If you can find reasonable duplicates of knobe, use water slide decals for the text. I made dups of the orig knobs for a Philco 42-1008, using hardwood dowel, acrylics for marbling, overcoated with clear lacquer. Blank clear decals avail on the web, and can be printed via your PC/printer.
