Sounds like a candlabra base.. I would try a lighting store,,, or an old 'lamp fixing shop, as they
would have buld soket base adapters, so maybe you could use a standard "C4" Christmas bulb..

There's also another kind of bulb that's narrower, and shaped more like the larger standard Edison base bulbs. It's available at your hardware store.
