Schematic for Zenith model L-721
3/28/2010 1:50:48 PMTerry Decker
I acquired this B-U-T-FUL Zenith AM FM radio from eBay. I liked it because of the excellent art-deco cabinet, and the fact that it had both AM an FM bands.
Believe me, it sounds as good as it looks.

However, I can't find a schematic for it. All of my sources, even NA, stop at the L-622.
It doesn't need repair, yet, but I like to have paper on every radio I own. Also, I've been told it is susceptible to mica disease.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Terry

Hi Terry,
I saw this one on eBay. It was quite a curioisity. Zenith made a radio like this (8H822) in the 1940's, then stopped in 1951 when they changed the style and circuitry to the H724.
This radio looks to be a revival of the old product. I would date it to around 1955. I think this is a rare example of an obsolete product coming back.

Best Regards,

Bill Grimm

The Zenith has become my Kitchen radio. It looks and sounds great, and elicts comments from every visitor. I'm listening to my favorite classical station as I write this.

Hi Terry,

The schematic is http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/309/M0025309.pdf. You will notice that the IF cans are different, especially the central IF. The Tube compliment is different, too. The output is 35B5 not 35C5. The mixer is 12BE6 not 12AT7 as in yours.
One of the old ones is up on ebay, link http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-Zenith-Bakelite-Tube-AM-FM-Long-Distance-Radio_W0QQitemZ260575518743QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3cab82e017
You may notice some differences. The Armstrong stickers were gone after 1952. The lense is yellowed, too. That is pretty much all I can see as a difference from yours.

Best Regards,

Bill
