This is kind of an odd question, but it is bugging me. I have a floor model 1940's console with AM and 3 shortwave bands. It has 7 tubes plus a tuning eye tube. The rectifier is a 5U4 and the output is a 6V6.It sounds wonderful at a moderate volume but gets annoyingly distorted when I turn it up.The question here is with having all those tubes and a 5U4 rectifier why would they not add one more 6V6 (push/pull) and make it that much more powerful and clear? It seems silly.I have seen other radio tube layouts within close time frame where there are 2 6F6'S or 42's 6V6's etc.Is it just for the sake of affordability? I always wondered what that awesome Scott radio with like I think 6 6F6 tubes in parallel,push/pull would sound like .Does anyone here have one of those sets?Do they sound incredible and loud or not that much better? Some day I am going to build my own mono or stereo ,enormous Art Deco/ Art Nouveau console with 4 6L6'S!! and 4 big loudspeakers to really shake the walls !
