Power supply

Does anyone make a power supply that I can use to run an old Crosley model 51 ?

Also, what can I use for a speaker or headphone?

Look on ebay for the "arbe III" or do a google search ..they are not cheap but well worth it if you plan on running any other attery radios....As for your crosley 51 you will need (to be authentic) a old time headset...I have MANY I could sell you rather cheap ...I have MANY MANY Crosley sets like yours...including two variations of the 51... NICE littel set...but in using a speaker..I would not because you can not get much volume with just two tubes in this set...

Thanks for your reply George but I probably won't be buying a power supply if they are expensive.

Do those tubes that are in it just pull out of the sockets? I tugged on one but seems locked in.

John ...In regards to the tubes in your Crosley 51 ...First with the front of the radio facing you..to remove tubes you will need to gently push down and twist to the left slightly. There is a metal pin in the tube base that fits into a groove on the socket. Sometimes the tube will fit VERY tight into the tube socket because the "plastic" socket has shrunk with age. Be very careful when twisting tubes. The glass part of the tube is glued into the base and glue usually is brittle and you can twist glass part out of the base. If you have not done so ..test the transformer..these are often bad. You should get a reading of 450- 500 ohms on one section and close to 1500 ohms on other. If you do not get this the radio will not work. Also, the fat pins on tubes are fillament and are 5 volts max. This is a fun littel radio if you get it up and working.. I have the 51A amp and you have just enough output to run a small horn speaker. On another note...The power supply kits you can order and put together yourself are fine ..I built one and hot glued it into old plastic tool box...OHH HEY the 51 amp is for sale on Ebay right now. It would moste likely be a expensive addition to your radio but if you really wana run a speaker i would get it. The 51 amp is a RARE littel item

George; What is the E-bay number for the 51 amp? Can't seem to find it on E-bay.

Thanks; Andy
