signal generator usage

I AM A BEGINER AT WORKING ON VINTAGE RADIOS.I AM THE PERSON ON FORUM WITH THE 6424 RADIO DISCUSSION.IBOUGHT A NEW RF SIGNAL GENERATOR MODEL#SG-4160B.NOW I NEED HELP ON HOW TO USE AND WHERE TO HOOK UP AT RADIO.EDD HAS BEEN VERY HELPFULLAND HAVE ALLMOST GOT IT WORKING,HOPE THIS MACHINE SOLVES SOME OF MY PROBLEMS.

In the archives section there is a book.....Elements of Radio Servicing. Think there is a good chapter about using RF gen.

:THANKS SCOTT,MINE IS A LITTLE DIFF. BUT WHAT IT TOLD ME WORKED NOW HAVE EVERY THING ALIGNED.I THINK I HAVE A PADDER PROBLEM,THE LOWER STATIONS ARE DEAD AFTER 900AM.TO 5OOAM.

Sounds like you still need alignment. Or the oscillator could be off. Use 455 on the Sig Gen for that.
Most alignment guides say to start at the last IF coil first and then work backward. try to hook an ACVTVM across the voice coil and turn the radio all the way up, controlling the volume with the output of the generator. Make sure you're not using a metal screwdriver. Align for 1600 first, then 600. Then go back over it all again.
