Zenith 6-S-128 tuning shaft
3/4/2010 12:36:25 PMPaul
The tuning shaft that extends through the hole in the case on my newly acquired 6-S-128 wobbles back and forth. I can actually press down or sideways on it and it will not only move in that direction, but the sound (signal) will cut out when I do. If I gently turn it it's smooth as silk, but wobbles when I more quickly tune. Before I go ripping into the set, can someone tell me if this is normal or something has come loose during shipping? Thanks.

Think the nut that holds the shaft is loose. It's touching a component shorting it out. Don't play it like that till you tighten the nut.

The speaker un-plugs, remove the knobs. chassis screws on the bottom. Slide the chassis out with care. I don't think you will need to mess with the dial, sounds like just a loose nut on the shaft below the dial. Should be an easy fix.

Hi Paul,
Warren seems to be giving you good advice. I want to add that you may need to take steps to keep the nut from loosening again. Lock-tight or a locking washer may be possibilities.

Best Regards,
