I have an odd problem here. I replaced the descriminator with one I rebuilt. I have used these capacitor values for quite some time, 24pF on the primary, two 68pF on the secondary and a 16pF isolated. Edd verified these about a year ago.
Both AM and FM aligned very well and the radio has excellent sensitivity. Hwever, on FM I tune in a station and on either side of dead center I hear distorted audio as expected when off frequency from an FM station, but when tuned right on, the audio is muffled. It sounds like the IF transformer is saturating. How can a thing like that happen? Are the powdered cores solidifying or is it something else?
Any suggestions welcome.
