But I'm not.
The radio still makes a decent display.
But- I am having the WORST luck with my radios lately.

I left a post for you on another forum. Check here for a power transformer:

:I'm having the WORST luck with my radios lately.
:First-
:I had to get help from Pbpix to fix my GE 517. He did it for free, but I'm still out $24 for shipping. And there's the credibility thing 'cause I couldn't get a handle on it. Plus it was practically destroyed in shipping. Poor thing!
:NOW- the GE G-50 I bought on eBay, yeah-the one with the missing tuning mechanism, has a bad power transformer.
:After it arrived I checked it out pretty good. Someone had already replaced the filter caps, but I went over everything anyway. I checked the caps with my Heath IT-11 and they tested good, the tubes tested good and the power and grid leak resistors were within tolerance. When I turned it on it played great. So I left it on and got on the computer for a while.
:I think anyone who has ever done a lot of repair recognizes the smell of over-heated electronics.
:Sure enough, the power transformer was burning hot to the touch.
:So- today I took out all of the tubes and for good measure disconnected the filters and field coil.
:I know, it was overkill because without the 80 rectifier those are disconnected anyway.
:I have a temp probe with my digital meter. It only took about 3 mins. before the temp was over 200 degrees.
:I tested the output voltages which were good. The schematic has the resistance readings, and they were within tolerance. I think the insulation between the windings has just deteriorated.
:I could probably buy a transformer from AES for about $50-$100.

Norm-
Yeah, I got that post and I appreciate it.
Actually I'm already familiar with Mark and I've talked to him several times on the phone. He's really nice and helpful. I'll probably call him Mon. Most of those transformers have some type of problem, such as no shell, cut leads, etc.
But you never know.
Thanks again for paying attention and helping.
