Can 6V6 tube be used in place of 6F6?

Hello all.Can 6V6 tubes be used in place of 6F6 even though current draw and load impedance is different or would this be hard on the amp or tubes?

Hi Chris, The 6V6 can only be used to sub in a parallel set. It won't work in a series set.

Hi Chris

George is right but don't think any radios used a 6F6 with series wired filaments?

Should measure plate and screen voltage on your 6F6. 6F6 is rated to 375 volts on the plate, 6V6 - 350 volts but the sub is usually ok. 6V6 will have more gain.

I also like the clarity of a 6V6 over a 6F6 or 6K6. Something about the arrangement of the grids to form the beams seems to improve the clarity. Perhaps since all of the grids are lined up, the electrons can travel straight towards the plate and not bump around and get mixed up.

...Could also have something to do with some other aspect of the tube's design, completely unrelated to the beam forming arrangement of the grids.
