Rogers majestic 7R732 MODEL #12-75

Does anyone know if you can use a speaker out of other Rogers radios from this time period. From what I can see they are all set up the same with transformer and other values in the circuit for the speaker. Is there anyone that can tell me if this is true.
Thanks
Mike

I just redid a 7M932 for a buddy - open field coil - so we replaced the speaker - he grabbed two speakers from radios in his storage and they both worked - although one was 1800 Ohm field coil and the other was 2000 Ohm - the plugs were the same - some higher end models of that year would have push pull output instead of a single 6f6 - so the wiring would be different for those - easy check is to look at how many wires on the primary side of the audio transformer.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if you know if there is a way of hooking up a newer type speaker? If so what can be done to the circuit to make it work.

Connect a resistor of the same resistance that the original field coil was. Add that in where the field coil was connected. use your original output transformer. Make sure the voice coil impedance of the new speaker is the same as the old one was. If there is any noticeable hum after, up the MFD value of the filter capacitors by 5 to 10 MDF more.

It depends how comfortable you are with the wiring that's required - The resistor will have to be high wattage - I've used 10 watt - but I try to heat sink them to the chassis - you have to keep the wiring insulated as well.
I don't know where you are - but it might be best to set it aside until you can get to a club meeting, swap meet or auction and find yourself another field coil speaker. At the meets I go to I can always find one or two and there are always beat up consoles going cheap.
