A TIP

Forum,
Frequently we radio rebuilders use steel wool on chassis, IF cans, tube shields etc to restore them, but steel wool remnants can play havoc in the wrong places. Learned this from one of my wood working mags. You can purchase rare earth magnets retail, but if you have an old hard drive laying around, ready for the recycler, it has the same. Put the magnets inside a cheap sandwich bag (but white grocery bags are best), and sweep the area that might have steel wool remnants, which will be obvious outside the plastic bag. Discard the bag, save the magnet, Happy Trails, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Another tip along those lines, if you have an extension magnet for picking things you drop up off the floor, do the same thing. I was surprized how many little pieces of wire I picked off the floor along with what I was trying to get. Much easier on the finger tips.

...Used steel wool on a switch in the back of a little Majestic AC/DC. The switch puts the C-7 pilot lamps in series with the radio when off, in parallel when on, or out of the circuit all together. Since it handles both the hot and the cold side of the wiring, now it randomly blows sparks. Darn steel wool!

Merry Christmas!

Oooh pretty lights!

With luck it won't take long for the light display to subside. If it was 0000 steel wool it doesn't last long in the face of 120VAC, I won't go in to how I know this...

Hopefully! Right now it isn't doing much of anything. I'm thinking about changing it out for an open-framed Cornell Dublier switch I have at hand.
