how to build old fashioned phase notch circuit????

Hello all! I just aquired a really old looking radio chassis with a front steel panel with a cool speaker cut out and holes already drilled for pots and switches. It is really old and the chassis box section has no punch outs at all.So I want to build a reciever.I have a punch and tubes and I could get a variable capacitor and coils etc.Can anyone explain where a phase notch circuit is placed in a radio circuit and also does anyone have a schematic on how to build one ,with inductors and capacitors etc. (old style)? If I have to wind a coil I will some how.My dad had some old black recievers years ago and I loved turning the phase notch control and hearing that wind swishing noise.I absolutely love those old dark rusty recievers with the octal tubes and the round window dials etc. and it is great to listen to shortwave and CW on these.Any info greatly appreciated.

Not sure about what radio(s) you're talking about so I'll assume you want a notch filter for CW and perhaps even SSB. A basic RC circuit open to experimentation is probably what you seek. Just do a Google. And rather than do all the math, put together a substitution box w/poly caps and click away. More fun than a reality show about accountants.
Since this is (I assume) an audio notch flter, it follows the audio output to the speaker/headphones. Even better is just to build/buy an external box and plug it into the headphone jack. (I did have a nice Ten-Tec transceiver w/a notch filter.)
If you really want to get serious about phasing, build a Twin T filter. Just Google.
And by the way, one of the best sources for filter info are the guys heavy into audio recording. Lots of sites and lots of circuits.

Best of luck.....
