Try to apply the epoxy only on the peripheral surfaces of the rod......not "in between" each joint. Simply butt all pieces together snugly then apply the epoxy with a toothpick......don't use too much epoxy.

I suppose you could use a conductive adhesive at the joints. The heatshrink is a good idea, it not only adds some strength to the repair it also cleans it up. Looks great!

:Not critical that the coils be "tight". Just secure them with tiny dabs of cement so they remain in place on the rod and don't stress the fine wires.
