Stromberg Carlson 420 Tuning Indicator

Hi guys, I really enjoy reading your posts and I feel like I'm learning a thing or two. I have a Stromberg Carlson 420 table top radio that works well. When I got the set, the 6AF6G tuning indicator filament was burned out and I just recently found a replacement. I have observed that during use, it is almost completely lit-up across the band and only makes minor movements when I approach a strong signal. Is this an indication of a problem with the voltages in the set? The tube lineup is 6A8, 6K7, 6H6, 6SQ7, 6F6, 6AF6G, and 80.
Thanks for your inputs!

Hi Ron

Unlike other eye tubes 6AF6G doesn't have a amplifier built in. It depends on voltage being higher on RF & IF tubes as strong stations are tuned in.

You may not get it to close completely but movement will improve as the radio is aligned and used with a good antenna. If the eye is always closed the RF & IF tubes may be weak and not drawing enough current.
