Picture of an ARBE 111

Hi everyone; a while ago Edd posted a picture of an Arbe 111 showing someone how his/her battery radio should be hooked up to the Arbe 111. For the life of me I can't find this posting. Can anyone direct me to it? Thanks.

:Which model radio are you trying to connect? I have several hook-up drawings for different models that came with my ARBE III. I would be happy to email you a copy if I have it.

Edd; Yes, that's the picture !!!! I have a Northern Electric R-2, a Canadian set, circa 1924 and I don't know how to make the connections to my Arby Burger 111. It uses 3 of the R215A tubes. There is a drawing inside the radio showing how to hook up the leads to a total of 6 batteries; (A) 3- 1 1/2v in series, (B) 2- 45v with connections to both 45v end and to the 22 1/2v, and (C) 1- 4 1/2v. I will try to get a picture of this drawing and attach it to this posting and maybe you might be so kind as to suggest how to make the connections, Edd

Processhead; Thanks for the offer but I think I have those drawings also. I went on the Arbe 111 site but they don't have my radio hookup shown. Mine is a Northern Electric R-24; a Canadian set circa 1924.

Sir Andy. . . . .

Is that set old enough to be using a 33-1S5-34-34-1A6 tube lineup and the battery wires connections color codings are
Green-Red-Yellow-Black.

OR, possibly, being a real Neanderthal and be using 01A, etc tubes ?

Otherwise, I don't have schematic acess, to research.

Edd; thanks for your reply. The set uses only 3 peanut tubes,R215A's and has 5 leads from the power cord. Unable to make out the lead colours because of age but the 5 leads each has a black round button attached showing +90B, +22 1/2B, -4 1/2C, -A-B+C,and +A. These are shown on the diagram below.
Here are some pictures:

I thought that with the diagram and the identified leads you might be able to sort out how to connect them to my Arbe 111. Appreciate if you could look at this, Edd.

These appear to be original batteries and there was also a set of headphones inside the cabinet.

Thanks; Andy

:Just a note to let every know that I contacted David Snow at Arbeiii with a drawing of how the power cord leads were connected to the 6 batteries and David was kind enough send me a drawing as to how the leads are supposed to be hooked up to my Arbe111. Well the radio is now working fantastically picking up all kinds of stations with my indoor slinky antenna. The first station I received was 1030 Boston. I didn't realize that those 3 little peanut tubes had it in them to operate this radio!!!!

Sir Andy. . . . .

Good to hear that you got the unit percolating, as I had just looked at the photos that you sent and could make out most of the wiring to confirm the hookup.

With the exception of the presence of a fahnestock clipped in resistor between two of the connections to one of the " B " batteries.

With that tube lineup, one would expect the incorporation of 1 tube as an RF amp, 1 for the detector and the final tube for the AF amp for the headphones.

Looks like one phone tip terminals of the headphones is passing thru a hole in the internal cabinet / storage and peeking up from one of the central binding post connections.

Hi Edd; You are very observant to notice that resistor on one of the 45v batteries. I didn't mention that to David Snow and probably should have. Would you like to maybe hazard a quess as to what its purpose might be ? That terminal you see is connected to #2 AERIAL post and the other end ties into the circuit below the post. I never did remove the chassis so I can't tell you exactly where it connects in the circuit. Moving it to #1 AERIAL post makes no difference to the sound quality. The headset actually has a large bakelite plug on the end and if you look at the radio from the front, this plug plugs into a female outlet about 4" above the far right hand knob. The headset is a BRANDES, manufactured here in Canada.
