TUNING EYE

THIS SET USES A 6U5 TUNING EYE TUBE TO SHOW SIGNAL STRENGTH. IT WORKS OK BUT I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE SENSITIVE. WOULD CHANGING THE 1 MEG OHM RESISTOR (LOCATED IN THE 6U5 TUBE SOCKET) TO ANOTHER VALUE MAKE A DIFFERENCE OR IS THIS SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES MODIFYING THE AVC CIRCUIT? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Changing the 1 meg resistor will make little difference. You can change the 6U5 to a 6E5 which is more sensitive. It takes about -8 volts on AVC to close the 6E5 eye while the 6U5 requires around -22 volts.

Peaking up the IF's and using a longer antenna will help closing the eye.
