Motorola 6T

I have a Motorola 6T I have been working on and I found the output IF transformer primary is open in several places. I have found a replacment but the primary is not tapped like original one is. I was wondering what the tapped primary and it`s connection to a 50 picofarad was for? Thanks,Mike.

:The reason for the question about the 50 picofarad cap. was that the new IF has no tap on it like the original had and I left the 50 pico cap. out of the circuit. The set plays very well but when I try to align it at the the frequencys called for ,it will align at 1700KC and 600KC but not at 1400KC. It will align at 1340KC but not at 1400KC. Can the tap and the 50 picofarad not being in the circuit cause this problem? Thanks Mike H.

Hi Mike,
I have seen those taps, too. The Zenith H724 has them on the first AM IF. I have assumed that it is done to shape the band pass, to widen it.
The IF that failed is likely the improved version. You may find a schematic for the original that may better suit your now operational IF.

Best Regards,

Bill Grimm
