Magnavox FM 18

Hi, Does anyone have a schematic for the Magnavox FM 18.
I'm having a problem with getting the tube to light up. It appears someone has tried to fix it before and gave up. Thanks, Tom

Sir Tom . . . . .

On my onlyschematic info that I have on a Maggotbox FM18, it too, would also have a problem in getting "the" tube to light up also,
as it is a solidified solid state unit.

Additionally, not finding any oooold units under that number in Beitmans. Supreme or Red Ryders.

Edd, Thanks for getting back to me, you have been most helpful in the past. The model number is half missing from the bottom and the one on the inside looks like (FM 18). The tubes are 12AL5, (2)12BA6, 12BE6, 12DT8, 50EH5, & 12AV6. The radio could be from the 60's as there is printed curcuit board plus some hard wiring. I couldn't find any info on this radio.
Could the model be (FM 1B)? Thanks again, Tom

Hi Tom,
The chassis should have a number on it. That will help with determining the SAMS data. Most time Magnavox model numbers don't help much. The Duosonic Model FM17 has same tube line-up, chassis 58-01-00, SAMS 463-6 Likely your set will have this chassis too.

Hi Bill, The chassis number appears to be 225062. The last digit is a little smeared. Maybe this will help. Thanks, Tom

Bill, I found a picture of the radio with chassis number 58-01-00 on line and thats it. Now, if someone has a schematic they could share, I can go to work. Thanks for your help, Tom

Good. I have the SAMS but I haven't replaced my scanner yet. I think someone will respond but if not I can mail it to you.

Sir Tom. . . . .

BEHOLD . . . . .your requested info for that Magnificent Maggotbox . .or would that possibly be a Plasticbox . . ,in your
particular, circa 1958 cabinets construction ?

Any particular problems present or encountered, . . or just wanting to be well set up for the future?

The unit, using itsPee Cee Bee construction, does somewhat alleviate the pulling / installing of discrete parts.

Edd, Thanks for the schematic. The problem with the radio is that the tubes won't light. Someone has been in it. It appears to have a rectifier connected to the filter capacitor and it may be the problem.
Thanks again, Sir Tom

Sir Tom. . . . .

That circuitry certainly looks straight forward enough to me. Initially we see the high side of the raw AC coming in from the interlock as the top line and thru line choke L12 A and then it goes on two possible routes right after that point.

The point that you must be mentioning is the passage thru the 22 ohm dropping /current limiting resistor and . . indeed . . then does go into your mentioned rectifier which then presents its rectified DC output to the A section of C1 electrolytic.

With no filaments, your point of interest, instead, would have been the downward path from L12A and feeding of raw AC into pin 3 of the 50EH5 AF output tube.

Then it is just a daisy chained sequence of the series filaments, until the 12AV6 has its pin 3 making continuity to ground.

There are two filamental R.F. decoupling chokes associated with each side of the 12DT8 FM tuner tube, and sometimes they are made with fine wire on a form or ferrite core and they corrode and open up where they connect to the heavier beam lead wire of the form.
