Delco R-1115

Can someone help me to date a Delco Super Heterodyne, Model R-1115, Serial #603265, United Motor Services Inc. radio? On my model the knobs are in a straight line. The three original knobs I had on mine (one is missing) each had a different letter molded inside them; a W was on one, a Q was on another, an a K, X or N was on the third. The knobs are approximately 27/32 inch wide, by ½ inch thick with a setscrew. They appear to be plastic or Bakelite with a circular walnut veneer disk glued to the front. I have pictures if someone can help me.
Thank you,
Michael

Warren,

I appreciate your reply, may I ask what you use to determine the age? I don't doubt what you say I am just curious about the radio. I bought it in 1979 while still in my teens and until recently I knew nothing about it. Some would say I still know nothing about it.

Can't really help but curious about your query. I will be standing by to see if something comes up for you. I think in this case pictures would be helpful if you are trying to get a replacement knob. It's unlikely the marks you describe will actually x-ref to anything. Perhaps to the manufacturer they were mold or batch letters. Here's my latest batch of knobs from a TV/Radio shop. Some I can identify the application but many more I'll never know.

I was not actively searching for a replacement knob, but I am not opposed to it either. I really was looking for information about my Radio. If you would explain to me how to add a picture I'd be happy to post some pictures of the radio and the knobs. It looks as if some of the knobs in your picture maybe the same except all I can see are the backs of them.

Hi Michael,

I didn't know one way or the other. I'm not selling knobs either. I don't understand the significance of mentioning the letters inside the knob. The picture reflects a few of the knobs I have and most likely all will not get matched to a set. Because there's really no indication on the knob as to the use. Your set is worth about $30.00 without the missing knob, maybe $45.00 if you get the "correct" knobs. Somehow, I don't think the two you have are right. I see Warren provided you with a 1937 date. That's on Rider's this site United Motors Service - Delco
Model R-1115 Serial Number above 100,000.

To post a picture. Well a search on this site will do better than I can tell you. But I'll try...basically take good pictures, resize to 800 X 600 which seems to work ok on this site, get on a free photo hosting site (try photobucket) and upload them, they will provide you the correct image code ( "img" ) entry which will look somewhat like and you will clean it up a bit to look like this ?IMG src=http://photobucket.com/albums/b34/shedradios/bear.jpg> and enter on this site. You will need to change the ? to a less than sign< for it to work. The ? was used in example to prevent a problem for me and things still may mess up. But if you can't figure it out once you get the IMG data just post it one time and someone will correct it. You then can "view source" and see how it happened.

Hi Bill,
I'm curious; would you be interested in selling a couple of your knobs? I have 2 radios that need knobs, an Emerson I've had for 30 years that needs 2 knobs, and a Philco that needs one knob.

If I'm not out of line, drop me an email.
