Does anyone think that a 78 tube may make a substitute for a 77 in a Philco 80

Hi Frank

Each 77 in this radio is used as a detector. A sharp cutoff tube like 77 works better than 78, remote cutoff type. You can try a 78 but signal volume may be low.

Do you have a 6C6? This tube will work in place of a 77 but may require a taller shield.

If you can't find a 77 or 6C6 email for address.

Norm. Many thanks for the info. I do have a couple 6C6. I will use this as the replacement - but I have lots of 78's

Thanks again. Frank.
