Globe transistor radio

My NTR-6G Fleetwood globe radio gets good reception above 1060KC but nothing below that. The tuning condenser plates aren't touching as checked with an ohmmeter and no shorts. Any ideas?

Old transistor radios also need new electrolytic capacitors, just like an old tube radio does. Replace all those little guys.

Yes, I know and I replaced all the lytics.

Okay, a common six transistor radio. A schematic is shown here.

One thing that is usually suspected is the ferrite antenna and oscillator wire connections. Some are twisted pairs connected to the tuner. check continuity. Also check resistors in the converter oscillator circuit.

OK, so I tried to adjust the trimmers on the tuning condenser. The first one I tried did nothing and I marked where it started so put it back the way I found it. The second one on the smaller section I tried to adjust and no luck either until I scraped away some of the torque paint used around the adjustment screw and then the radio got reception on the low end loud and clear.
