The back cover is missing so I cannot determine the make of this set. On the front it has a tag saying Knight. It is a dual band radio AM and Shortwave.
On the chassis there is a tag listing the patent licensing for the radio and the number 25-107492.

:Looks like you have a Knight (Allied) radio Model G9553 or a Model G9557. Look in this website under resources and under Allied for these model numbers. Looks like they both use a resistive cord to knock down the ac voltage.
