ARVIN 616 or "Pontiac" - Restoration
10/18/2009 1:00:01 AMPeter G. Balazsy
Here's the latest restoration effort I just did on a nice little 1941 ARVIN 616 radio.

It's a standard AA5 set that performs very nicely now after totally recapping and adding a 3rd stage to the power supply.

There was a minor hum that is completely silent now after adding a 3rd filter cap and taking the 50L6 plate voltage from the 2nd stage and all other B+ from the 3rd.

My collaborator/painter Ken followed my request for these colors, (Hunter-Green with Ivory, and a splash of Red)

I think he did a great job especially with that little curved pin stripe enhancing the slightly rounded cabinet at the grille area.

I thought it reminded me of something ....and he said, "Yeah.. an old early 50s Pontiac?"
...Yep that's it! lol

I also completely recreated the dial face as you can see from the worn-away old one on the original cabinet.

I like that " Before " picture. The radio almost has a sad look. The " After " looks happy now. It does have that Pontiac Chief look. Even has a Delco tube in it.
Someone will enjoy it for many years to come. Nice.

Note:
I always re-post after trash is cleaned up.

Below is a partial quote from Richard last month about how good posts will often get removed simply because it would take too much time to clean it all up.:

" there may be times where ...... posts with good content get removed because of significant unacceptable content being placed in the thread."
