The power xformer in my 70 is going out, and I would like to know where to get it rewound. Thanks Mike.

Hi Mike

How do you know the power transformer is going out? It should be either good or bad, not weak. If hot it could have shorted turns or something in the circuit is drawing too much current.

If hot remove the 80 tube and allow the radio to operate for a half hour. Other tubes will be lit but the transformer should not get hot.

If you need a transformer rewound search the internet but cost will exceed $100.

Might find a replacement here:

Norm; When I received this set it was in very good condition. But when I pulled the plate off the bottom,I found a pile of wax under the power xformer. I did try to run it with the rectifier out but it started to buzz and heat up. A friend of mine told me that the L chassis were known for a weak power xformer and the only other one I have owned had a replacement xformer. This one is in good shape and worth a new xformer. Thanks for the info, Mike.
