RCA 6K console power transformer issue
9/16/2009 8:45:26 PMHutchclub
I'm working on a RCA 6K console that has a cooked power transformer, completely charred and burned, for a friend from work. It was his deceased brother's radio. I have done the usual re-cap and resistor check/replace and rewire as needed. However due to the power transformer condition I can not tell what replacement I should order. The schematic is not clear to me. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi

You need a transformer with 3 secondary windings. 6.3 volts @ 2.5 amps or more to light most of the tubes and lamps. 5 volts @ 2 amps for the rectifier filament. A high voltage winding. The original was 315-0-315 volts. I would look for 300-0-300 to 325-0-325 @ 70 ma.

Be sure the replacement fits on the chassis.

AES, www.tubesandmore.com , Radio Daze, www.radiodaze.com and PTOP, www.oldradioparts.com each sell power transformers for old radios.
