Rectifiers with series filiments

I plan on building an amplifier with two mirror image mono blocks with a central power supply. Balance is the key. THe power transformer I have ran a 5u4 so I have 3amps to work with. I want to use 0d3 regulators. On the theme of "glowing tubes" I thought of 82's. However I need to know How can I wire 2 82's to the 5 volt 3a winding of my Xformer, Is this possible, Are there any 5 volt 1.5 amp mercury rectifers out there?

Later on when I start building/ designing my amp I will have more questions.

Thanks
Ian

2 mono blocks with a single power supply? Kinda defeats the purpose of having separate amps, doesn't it? And an 0D3 regulator; what will you be powering with the output? (which has a maximum of 40ma out). Most amps don't need a regulated supply. The 82 will have a maximum output of 600ma and typical current is only about 115ma continuous. Filaments are 2.5 volt at 3 amp, so they would need to be wired in series, BUT--they are directly heated cathodes; a real potential for problems exists if one tube is weaker. Why not just use a 83, or better yet, the original 5U4 that was intended for that transfomrer?

Not so much mono blocks, as a 3 part amp. The 0d3s will regulate the b+, more for looks than functionality. I was thinks 2 in series for 300v 40 ma Per channel (agian for looks). The output tubes will be 42's. Would I possibly need to PAralell 2 in series for 80 ma per channel ? The power transformer is from a AMI 2620 stereo amp ~25wpc .The dual 82's MAke the amp more semetrical, More for looks that functionality agian. What kind of problem Is it that you mentioned? also am going for a 35-37 theme with tubes (exept the regulators). The other reason for the single power supply is that I already have the parts For it. (pwr xformer + 2 out xfomer). I am trying to spend as little as possible.
Thanks Ian

Hi Ian

You can operate the 82 tubes with filaments in series. When doing this best to connect each 82 tube to one side of the of the high voltage winding.

0A3 has a nice orange glow if you have use for 75 volts regulated. It's more noticeable than the pink color of 0D3.
