potter square metal caps

Anybody have info on these? do they wear out and need relacing? or are they like mica caps and never really need to be replaced? The ones in my unidentified set are unmarked so I dont know the values... agravating!!

Don,

If they look something like the ones here:

then they are most likely paper type capacitors (condensers) and they can become leaky or short just like the tubular paper-wax time seen most often. Some are sealed in a tar like substance and some are completely sealed in metal with the bottom cover soldered in place.

What circuit are they connected to? Maybe if you draw out this part of the circuit, compare to a similar radio schematic. That should give you at least an idea.
