I have never seen but one brand and type of Brasso. Never have tried it on a radio cabinet before. Sounds like it should have worked as per what others have said about it. Could be your cabinet is not of the true bakelite. One other thing i have used though, is a wadding polish called " Nevr-Dull " this is really for silverwear, but it works real good on plastics too. Even brings back those dull head light covers on your car. Could give this a try, or blue coal auto polish. Even that liquid called " New Finish " in an orange bottle. Could even give it a final wax for all the luster you want.

You should try a small spot a few inches.. then rub it around very well and buff off with clean dry cloth...
It should be fine.

Andrew,
I just used "Soft Scrub" (mild paste Comet cleanser) after #400 dry sanding to polish plastic (celluloid??) white keys from an old organ. For a heavier cut, use #0000 steel wool with Soft Scrub. Rubbing compound from automotive supply will also do.
