Choke coil ..can I replace w/ resistor?

Hi all I have Majestic model 20 I am restoring..OMG THE TAR!!!... On the schematic...comming off of A and B (which are the + leads of two 2mf caps) is a choke at 595 homs. Is it possible to replace this with a resistor say at 600 ohms or will this effect operation?

It would be nice to keep a choke in there, it helps to smooth out the ripple. You can use a resistor is need be, 600 ohms sounds fine. I would up the value of those two 2MFD capacitors, to at least 5MFD. No more than 10MFD.

GOOD GOD...I knew this radio (Majestic 20) was going to be a challenge...but geez...I don't have a oven to melt the large TAR BLOCK..so I used my eat gun...geez what a mess..but was kind-a fun..like playing in the sand box.... Good thing I did ..the transformer has an open winding in the secondary...and radio will be 5 lbs less with all the tar and old book caps now gone

In regards to my Majestic 20 ..it uses for main caps 2 2mf and 2 1mf for amin caps ....I have been told to use the same otherwise B volatge will be to high...Is it going to be to high if I use 4.7 electolytic MF caps for each of the 4 sections? I am all out of 1.0 caps.

Don't have the print of your radio. The power supply is also a tuned circuit. Where you don't have a filter choke anymore, to up the value to 4.7 MFD would be fine to compensate for the lack of that part. I would think for the other 1 MFD capacitors, it would be wise to keep those the same value.
