You can also use electrolytic caps, but be careful to install with the correct polarity.

:Greetings everyone. If you have a radio that uses the old potted paper capacitors in a box can you use new paper capacitors to replace. This is in regards to a Philco model 62 that has 2 2mf caps probably in the potted box, so can a set of 2 1mf paper caps (rated for 630 volts DC) in parallel be used for each of the 2 mf caps??Can this be done without overheating .Are these paper caps basically the same as the old ones in power supply. I know you could use new tiny electrolytic caps but can this be done?

::I found a site ,Jensen capacitors.com that makes handmade paper in oil capacitors up to 1 mf ,so I I am wondering about this.
