Agree in most cases higher line voltage doesn't matter. Some power transformers saturate when line voltage goes much above 115 volts. When this happens a transformer will over heat even without a load.

:Yesteryear was around 110 VAC ( floating ) + or - a few.
:Today it's 120 VAC . For the most part don't worry about it. It even perks up the radio a little. If you really want to run your radio at a lower AC voltage. Read what is going into it at the line cord after the light bulb you are using. 110 VAC would be what it was made for.

Personally, I tend to think that adding a series lamp is overkill. You could add a CL-90 inrush current limiter which may prolong tube life and which will reduce steady-stage voltage by a few volts.

:Geetings.I keep hearing that line voltage at present is higher than it was in 1920's 30's ...How much are we talking about? Is the incresed voltage enough to shorten life span of tubes etc.I like to run my old radios in series with a 200 watt bulb and heard this reduces line voltage. How much is the reduction a few volts or 10 or 20 volts?Would this reduce line voltage similiar to what it was back then, or too much? Thanks for any information.
