Zenith Ant Term Question
7/30/2009 1:25:11 AMPeter G. Balazsy
Hi Guys:
On this 6S222:
I'm kind of puzzled that I can't make out the logic of the terminal strip lettering. There are four posts.

GTD --- DTM --- + --- DTS

The schematic only shows 3 points A - Z - G

http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/207/M0025207.htm

So what's the right meaning or correlation as to what is what?

On the chassis inside the wiring is:

GTD - is going to the same point as "A" on the print (antenna coil primary)

DTM - goes to the same as "Z" on the print which goes to the rotary switch.

+ connects to nothing.

DTS - is hard wired to the chassis.

The print shows an optional jumper from Z to G

The radio operates best for Broadcast AM w/the long wire antenna connected to GTD and enhanced reception on ShortWave with an earth ground (water-pipe) on DTM

But should the jumper be connected too?

A little enlightenment please?

Sir Peter. . . .

FIRSTUS. . . .we 'uns want's to sees its all wawshed up, spic 'n span chassis. . . .ha . .ha. . . .

Looks like you have the coincidence of the GTD-DTM-DTS correctly correlated , but I might only guess as to the "T" aspect being for terminal.

Now, all that I am seeing there is the designated A Z G terminals of which the G is the given ground connection, and their could then be two alternate "aerial" connection modes.

The most common one being the jumping of the Z-G terminals and then utilizing a single l o n g wire antennna .

Do note, that some times , Granny Goodknocker was QUITE creative in also utilizing an end connection to the metal bed springs or
the additional adjunct wiring grid of a window screen.

The REAL purist, loooking for long haul reception, would have his long wire Windom antenna outside and be bringing in its two leads and then lifting the Z-G jumper so that he could additionally get into its loading coil and have a balanced input for his dual wire antenna via A-Z.

Also, a large, tunable loop antenna could be hooked in , by that same manner.

Thanks for the input EDD:

Yes that's the Zenith cube I just sold yesterday:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190322341084&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT

So you don't have any idea what the DTM ATD DTG stuff might mean?

Maybe it was built for foreign distribution or came from across the pond, and those abbreviations are another language.

.. but it seemed like a standard American Broadcast band..
And it seems like a regular 6s222

Hi Peter,
I had a 5S127 with four terminals. I know how it got that way, too. I put the termial strip in myself as a kid in the 1970's.
Four screw, screw terminals were available and fit in the same spot as the original three terminal strip, which often has the 'A' screw worn out from over use, connecting and reconnecting the antenna.

I suspect that this is what you have encountered. The enigmatic markings on the terminal came from the terminal strip's first intended use.

Best Regards,

Bill Grimm
