Hi all-I came across an RCA Victor radio (1946/47).Pluged it in and no power.I replaced 3 tubes and still no power.I tested the dial lamps and they were blown so I put two new ones in,pluged the radio in ,turned it on and they lit for a split second and blew.Do any of you guys have a theory on what might be the problem? The radio is in ok shape.I`d love to bring this thing back to life but I cant afford to spend a weeks pay at this time. Thanks Joe

Hi Joe

You don't mention the type of radio but with lamps blowing probably AC/DC, without power transformer. Replace the electrolytic filter caps. They may be rated 30 & 50 mfd @ 150 volts. You can buy individual units, 33 & 47 mfd with 160 volt rating.

The original ones are most likely shorted. When the tubes heat and start drawing current the lamps may blow. By now the rectifier tube has probably blown. The most common tube type would be 35Z5GT.
