So you buy it and cross your fingers.
In this case the finger crossing seemed to be all I needed and a handful of GoJo.
I don't have a 'before" shot so you'll have to take my word that it was gummy and grungy.
But after a few coats of Gojo I wiped it down with mineral spirits and dried it off. After it dried it seemed a bit flat.
So I saw an old can of Scott's Liquid Gold I had laying around here for 20 years I think...lol
So I applied some very liberally and let it soak in well for a few days.
I then wiped it with a dry cloth and gave it a nice coat of Butcher's paste wax.
That's it.... nothing else.
Then I recapped the dusty-musty old metal chassis and gave it my typical kitchen sink washing.... then a quick spray of acrylic lacquer after it was dry.
So sometimes you just get lucky and you can come up with a very attractive old beauty without having to do a full blown cabinet refinish job.
I got lucky here.... Nothing super stunning... but certainly a keeper:
I'll say that's a keeper! Very Nice work Peter.

Wouldn't it be nice if a little hand cleaner and wax would restore us old timers too?
I was born when this radio was being made.... and It looks and runs better than I do...lol
