26 tubes &24A YEARS USED
7/21/2009 4:12:54 AMCHRIS
Greetings.I recently aquired a Crosley radio chassis .I don't know what model but it requires 6 tubes and all 4 prong.I assume these would be #26 tubes except for the power and rectifier tubes. The transformer and tuning capacitor are enclosed in a long box and there are 3 beautiful copper RF coil cans.Am I right that these would be#26 tubes ?Also would this radio be older than a radio that had 24A's?Were 24A'S invented and used later(screen grid) or is this just a certain design.

24 tubes came out in June of 1929; 26 tubes came out in September of 1929.

Actually the 26 type tube came out sept of 27.
seems like they had a 2 or 3 year run.
not to many sets used them after 29-30

The 24a had it's run till around 32-33
a lot of sets towards 32-33 used type 57 or 58's instead..
