Kolster K-45
7/17/2009 10:02:43 PMJohnny Carson
I just picked up a Kolster k-45 radio. It is a wired remote radio from 1929. Uses two type 50 tubes in PP and two type 27 tubes for pre's. two 81 are the rectifiers. I was wondering how much this thing might be worth if I kept it together and sold it. If not, I am going to cannabalize it for the amp. Any suggestions? I have never seen one. They are heavy beasts. They sold for a whopping 500.00 when bought new in 1929. thanx, johnny

Don't know what it's "worth" .. Seems a shame though to tear it up just for an amp. A radio that old should bring some interest. Maybe it's "worth" more to sell it for a good offer, knowing it's going to a good home should be "worth" it. Get what I mean ?

Slusser's 6th edition lists the value range of $470-530. That would be for a complete set.

Doug, I think I could let it go for that, but not with the 50 tubes in it. I'm thinkin I could probably fetch more than that just for the amp or even just the trannies? I don't know, maybe I will list it on ebay tomorrow or Monday and see what happens.

Warren, I think I will take your and Doug's advice and list it tomorrow or Monday on ebay and see what it brings without the two type 50 tubes in it. Thanx so much for your input.

Johnny,
What kind of condition is the Kolster in? It is a fairly rare set, and it would be a shame to dismantle it. But, if it is not in good shape, and you decide to take it for parts, I would be please to buy some of the parts off you to complete my K-45. Thanks!
